Cormorant and salmon in Skjern River—the extent of predation and test of strict measures (Skjern Skarv) (39356)

Project Details

Description

We test if strict measures to prevent cormorants from eating salmon smolts have any effect. In Skjern River and Ringkøbing Fjord cormorants are causing high mortality of migrating smolts.

In this project we compare the estimated mortality between 2016, where no special measures were taken with that of 2017 where intensive protective shooting and harassment of birds were undertaken. Cormorants are monitored and various methods of shooting and scaring is tested.
