    Project Details

    Description

1D consolidation of Danish overconsolidated plastic clays in order to determine: (i)their overconsolidation pressures, and (ii) the effect of rate of strain on their behavior. The project aims also at replacing the standard stepwise consolidation procedure (StC) with an appropriate continuous consolidation technique (CC) in order to save time (from about 5 weeks to 1-2 days) and obtain a better insight into the behavior of the clays. In this respect, it is necessary to conduct some series of calibration tests (CC tests Vs. StC tests).
A special consolidation cell has been developed. It allows testing with or without back-pressure. The setup is automatized using the VI (Virtual Instruments) supported by LabView.
