Project Details
Description
The aim of the project ØkoKØS is to test and develop a near-commercial setup for cultivation of dulse (Palmaria palmata) by utilizing downstream seawater resource from a land-based oyster site as means for co-cultivation. The purpose is to demonstrate such co-cultivation at a small production site in Denmark of a new valuable aquaculture product by utilizing existing infrastructure to boost a more sustainable aquaculture. The project will focus on how such co-cultivation can be advantageous in relation to ongoing production and prolonging the production season, which is the main limiting for open water cultivation. Co-cultivation of oyster and dulse in a landbased facility would be a way to stabilize the supply of high quality dulse biomass which currently is a bottleneck for product development of dulse-containing items.
