Capacity building for cleaner technology in developing countries

Within the National Cleaner Production Centre Programme, managed by UNEP IE and UNIDO, the department is part of the network of national cleaner production centre and resource partners and is twinning partner for the Cleaner Production Centre of Tanzania. In the 1996 two cleaner technology demonstration projects were started in the Dar es Salaam area and in Zanzibar with 16 companies. Through a training programme based on three seminars, activities in the trainees' companies and support from the centre and the department in between the seminars, the companies are developing actions plans for cleaner technology. Based on analyses of hte experiences of the companies, strategies for national capacity building within cleaner production will be developed.
