Bluefin tuna behaviour and survival (39485)

Project Details

Description

Atlantic bluefin tuna, one of the world’s most iconic fish species, is again present in Nordic waters after being absent for six decades. Reasons for both the disappearance and the return is unclear, but may involve overexploitation and ocean conditions.

Understanding and describing the behaviour and survival of Atlantic bluefin tuna will be important for understanding the ecology of the species, potential impact on ecosystems including prey that is also commercially important.

The project aims tagging large Atlantic bluefin tuna visiting Nordic waters in order to generate behavioral data on these fish over the course of 12 months.
