    Ph.D study: Powerful microcomputers and rugged camerasystems has enabled autonomous space based vision systems. Such systems in general, and autonomous systems in paticular, must have very robust, noise and failure tolerant detection and tracking mechanisms for the detection and tracking of features of interrest in the image. IAU has a strong collaboration with international partners in the field, e.g. JPL of NASA and ESTEC of ESA. The project is aimed at developing methods and algorithms usable especially for deep-space probes.
