The project will apply a discours analytic approach on a study of the development of the modern city sewerege system in tha last part of the last century. Through a historical analysis is highlighted the ideas and discourses in sewerege engineering and hygiene which shaped the solutions we know today. As modern hygienic culture and the idea of civilisation is closely linked to the development of sewerege systems in urban areas, the project investigates both the tecnical and social aspects of these developments. Cultural and symbolic barriers for change of the modern systems are identified.
The project is funded by the Danish Humanistic Research Council.
