Horizon 2020 - Fast Track to Innovation: The civil aviation sector is facing the dual challenges of high sustained demand for passenger air travel and increasing
security requirements. In response to terrorist attacks passengers are required to remove liquids, aerosols and gels (LAGs) and electronic devices from hand luggage prior to it being scanned. This has resulted in longer passenger screening queues and a significant increase in the time for passenger to pass through airport security checks, reducing the number of passengers screened per hour from 350 in 2003 to average of 150 today.
In XSPERINSE we will revise the design of aprototype scanner to produce a version that incorporates an upgraded version of the currently used ME detector tailored to the specific requirements of the scanner and implement new data analysis algorithms and reduce the scanner’s power consumption. These activities will result in demonstrating our solutions competitive advantages through a large-scale testing and prepare it for commercialisation.
