Winner of Euro Tech Photo Contest "What does your research look like in times of COVID-19?" for early-stage researchers

Prize: Prizes, scholarships, distinctions

Description

In November 2020, Eurotech Universities Alliance had organized a photo contest entitled "What does your research look like in times of COVID-19?" for early-stage researchers as a part of the EuroTech high-level event "Universities of Science & Technology: Designing a Resilient Europe."
Anjali A Edathil, a PhD Student from Biomaterial Microsystem (BIOMIC) of DTU Nanolab under the supervision of Associate Professor Stephan S Keller won the first place. Her winning photo (attached) entitled 'The Corona Effect on Hydrogels' shows insight into the challenges faced while carrying out the lab activities post COVID-19 lockdown as a part of her PhD research work under the PHOENEEX project funded by European Research Council (ERC).

Details of the winning photo: Shapeable hydrogels with 3D morphology have shown great technological promise in last decades. Before corona, with the help of additive manufactured master molds, polysaccharide-based hydrogels were successfully fabricated with excellent mechanical strength and shape ability. Surprisingly, after corona lockdown, the fabricated hydrogels showed poor mechanical strength. Although, the problem was because of expired chemicals, we assume that the hydrogels were infected by COVID-19 .
