Advanced testing and high-performance modeling of large-scale composite structures and offshore steel structures with a focus on structural integrity and digitalization. The research topics cover nonlinear buckling, fracture and fatigue under complex and extreme load conditions; smart structural health monitoring and Digital Twins using Industry 4.0 technologies.
A committee member of several international scientific and technical organizations such as International Ship and Offshore Structures Congress (ISSC), Villum Center for Advanced Structural and Material Testing (CasMat), International Conference on Composite Structures, and International Conference on Mechanics of Composites. Member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).
Project Director and Principal Investigator of Villum Experiment Project DiscoverBlaDE (A pioneering experiment to discover unknown failure mechanisms of future offshore wind turbine blades) funded by VILLUM FONDEN. Project Technical Director and Principal Investigator of AQUADA-GO project (Automated blade damage detection and near real-time evaluation for operational offshore wind turbines) funded by EUDP. DTU Project Director and Principal Investigator of QualiDrone project (Intelligent, autonomous drone inspection of large structures within the energy industry) funded by EUDP. Work Package Leader in the DARWIN (Drone Application for pioneering Reporting in Wind turbine blade Inspections) project funded by the Innovation Fond of Denmark, and also in the RELIABLADE (Improving Blade Reliability through Application of Digital Twins over Entire Life Cycle) and RELIFE (Methodology for assessment of remaining life time of wind turbine blades based on damage state) projects, both supported by the Danish Energy Agency through the Danish Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Program (EUDP).
