At National Food Institute I have been working in the Laboratory of Applied Micro and Nanotechnology in the SMARTDIAGNOS (http://www.smartdiagnos.eu/), VIVALDI (http://www.vivaldi-ia.eu/), ISOAMKIT (http://www.isoamkit.com/en/) and APTALABCHIP project. I have been actively involved in the internal validation of in-house developed isothermal amplification based Salmonella detector devise (VETPOD, Veterinary Validation of Point of Care Detection Instrument) with real samples from slaughter. I am also involved in the development of Immuno-PCR integrated microfluidic system for point-of-care applications. My role in the project is to develop an efficient and reliable pathogen concentration technique using pathogen specific bioreceptors (antibodies/aptamers) immobilized on the magnetic beads and on the 3D sponge structure. Further, development of sample concentration combined integrated solid phase PCR and isothermal amplification platform for the direct multiplexed pathogen identification from various biological samples.

Research areas

  • Generation and characterization of various bioreceptors/biorecognition elements such as Aptamers (DNA, RNA, Peptides), antibodies.
  • Bioreceptors characterization, bioconjugation and immobilization.
  • Expertise in the sample concentration techniques and integration with immunological and molecular identification techniques.
  • Expertise in the immuno-PCR, Solid phase PCR and isothermal amplification techniques for rapid multiplexed pathogen identification.
  • Designing and development of lateral flow/dipstick techniques.
  • Synthesis and characterization of various nanoparticles such as quantum dots, Gold nanoparticles (GNPs), Silver nanoparticles (SNPs), Carbon nanotubes (CNTs), Carbon nanospheres (CNS), Graphene and Graphene oxides etc... bioconjugation techniques, nano-biomolecular interactions such as FRET/BRET/CRET and fluorescence quenching studies.
  • Characterization of the bio-interfaces, nanoparticle based biosensing platforms and nano-bioprobes by different physical and optical techniques.
  • Expertise in  protein isolation, purification and characterization of proteins by various conventional techniques such as Gel permeation, Ion exchange, Affinity chromatography, GC, RP-HPLC, Electrophoresis, Western Blotting and  application of ELISA.
  • Well-versed in Immunological techniques like production of polyclonal antibodies in avian and mammalian systems, their purification, characterization and isotyping.
  • Immunofluorescence techniques, bioassay development and validation.
  • Certified user of laboratory experimental animal facility and Biosafety Level III facility.
