Sven Karlsson er ekspert i evaluering design af parallelle computere. Hans forskningsmæssige hovedtemaer er: Arkitektur og konstruktion af computere, compilerteknikker, operativsystemer og computernetværk.
Sven Karlsson er adjunkt ved sektionen Computer Science and Engineering ved Informatik og Matematisk Modellering (IMM). Han er uddannet civilingeniør på LTH, Sverige i 1997, og opnåede efterfølgende phd-graden i Teleinformatics på KTH, Sverige i 2004.
Sven Karlsson var ansat som post doc på FORTH-ICS i Kreta, Grækenland inden han tiltrådte som adjunkt på DTU i 2007. Han er ansvarlig for DTU’s undervisning i kursen ” Parallelle og tidstro systemer”. Derudover fungerer han som vejleder for eksamensprojektstuderende. Sven Karlsson er forfatter og medforfatter til mere end 15 videnskabelige artikler.
