Peder Klit er ekspert i maskinelementer og maskinkonstruktion. Maskinelementer er f.eks. skruer, fjedre, tandhjul, lejer, aksler o.l. I maskinkonstruktion vælges, dimensioneres og sammenbygges maskinelementerne så de kan udføre den ønskede funktion.
Peder Klits forskningsområde er smøring af maskinelementer. Korrekt smøring er af afgørende betydning for at opnå pålidelig drift af en maskine.
Peder Klit blev ansat ved Danmarks Ingeniørakademi i 1984. I 1996 blev han ansat ved Institut for Konstruktions- og Styreteknik og er nu ansat ved Institut for Mekanisk Teknologi, Sektion for Faststofmekanik.
