Research activities and qualifications in brief:

Currently employed as Senior Advisor. Activities comprise supervising the daily routine diagnostic methods, approving results of laboratory analyses, interpreting laboratory results and advising veterinarians.

Previous research activities have included prevention and diagnosis of bacterial infections in production animals.

Activities and experience comprise development of ELISAs and PCR-tests for research, surveillance and diagnosis of disease, characterization of disease causing bacterial agents, antigens and virulence factors, including development of detection and purification procedures for proteins and lipopolysaccharide, molecular cloning and preparation and purification of recombinant proteins. Studies on pathogenesis and development of infection models in pigs and use of small and large animals in protection and infection experiments and for production of poly- and monclonal antibodies.

Vaccinology has been a key research activity that has comprised development of experimental vaccines, subunit vaccines and autogenous vaccines, against pleuropneumonia, edema disease and exudative epidermitis in pigs and evaluation of vaccines and therapeutic antisera in experimental animal models and in clinical field trials.

I have experience in interdisciplinary project management with internal and external participation, and with national and international collaboration. Have been heading research and development project on characterization of exfoliative toxins from Staphylococcus hyicus, purification and inactivation of verotoxin 2e from recombinant E. coli and development of ELISA tests for antibodies against various serotypes of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae in pigs.

Research activities have comprised preparation and characterization of monoclonal antibodies, research on Streptococcus suis including development of an infection model, an antiserum for prevention of infection and diagnostic methods for S. Suis, serological characterization of A. pleuropneumoniae and development of ELISAs for serological diagnosis and surveillance of A. pleuropneumoniae and Salmonella in pigs, development of cultivation procedures for different bacteria under fermentor conditions, and identification, purification and characterization of exfoliative toxins from S. hyicus that cause the skin disease exudative epidermitis in pigs.

Education activities have included supervision of several graduate students and technician trainees in their final exam projects, lecturers at PhD-courses and supervision of a PhD-student 2003-2006.

Other academic activities include refereeing scientific papers for the journal Veterinary Microbiology, acting as opponent at one PhD-exam in 2004, participating in a WHO expert panel in 2005 and arranging the meetings 9th International Symposium on Staphylococci and Staphylococcal Infections, Kolding, Denmark, June 14.-17. 2000, as member of the national advisory board, and 4th International Veterinary Vaccines and Diagnostics Conference, Oslo, Norway, July 25.-30. 2006, as member of the scientific and executive committees.

Author of 30+ international peer-refereed scientific publications and 50+ other scientific publications.
