Senior researcher with a focus on water quality aspects in aquaculture. Since 2002, the research has included applied research and extensive collaboration with commercial fish farms and RAS in Denmark. The work includes e.g.:

  • Testing of water quality, development of methods to monitor water quality and strategies to improve or control water quality
  • Optimizing chemical disinfection and implementing peracetic acid and hydrogen peroxide as alternative agents to formalin
  • Biofiltration, assessment of nitrification performance and kinetics and documentation
  • Assessment of factors affecting nitrification performance (type of media, effects of disinfectants, salinity, temperature, start-up and backwashing etc.
  • Test, develop and implement innovative techniques to control the microbial carrying capacity in RAS (foam fractionation in FW, sponge biomedia, ozonation)
  • Development of new and innovative simple methods to monitor microbial water quality and assess biofilm activity.

Collaboration with Ultra Aqua, Mycometer, ElectroCell, CM Aqua, Water ApS, Oxyguard, Billund Aquaculture, AkvaGroup, KSK Aqua, Levapor, PK Plast, Biomar, AquaPri and several commercial fish farms and RAS companies.

Research collaboration with Danish RAS companies and suppliers, the Danish Aquaculture Organization, the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, fish farmers and veterinarians. Research collaboration with the University of Aalborg, Copenhagen University, DTU Environment, and international research collaboration with colleagues from the US (TCFFI, VW & USDA, AR), Germany (IGB, Berlin) Norway (NTNU, Trondheim; NMBU, Ås, UiT, Tromsø; Nord Uni., Bodø; NIVA, Nofima) and Tanzania.

Seniorforsker med fokus på vandkvalitet i akvakultur. Siden 2002 har arbejdet omfattet anvendt forskning i med kommercielle dambrug og RAS anlæg i Danmark. Arbejdet omfatter bl.a.

  • Test af vandkvalitet, udvikling af metoder til overvågning af vandkvalitet og strategier til at forbedre eller kontrollere vandkvaliteten
  • Optimering af kemisk desinfektion og implementering af pereddikesyre og hydrogen peroxid som alternative midler til formalin
  • Biofiltrering, bestemmelse af nitrifikation aktivitet og kinetik og dokumentation
  • Vurdering af faktorer, der påvirker nitrifikation og biofilter performance (type af medie, påvirkning af desinfektionsmidler, saltholdighed, temperatur, opstart og returskylning og vedligehold mv.)
  • Test, udvikling og implementering af innovative teknikker til at kontrollere den mikrobielle forekomst/bærekapacitet i RAS (skumfraktionering i FW, brug af alternative biomedier, ozonering)
  • Udvikling af nye og innovative enkle metoder til at måle mikrobiel vandkvalitet og vurdere den bakterielle aktivitet i biofilm.

Samarbejde med Ultra Aqua, Mycometer, ElectroCell, CM Aqua, Water ApS, Oxyguard, Billund Aquaculture, AkvaGroup, KSK Aqua, Levapor, PK Plast, Biomar, AquaPri ogen række kommercielle dambrug og RAS-virksomheder.

Forskningssamarbejde med danske RAS virksomheder og leverandører, Dansk Akvakultur Organisation, Miljøstyrelsen, dambrugere og dyrlæger. Forskningssamarbejde med Aalborg Universitet, Københavns Universitet, DTU Miljø, og internationalt forskningssamarbejde med kolleger fra USA (The Conservation Fund Freshwater Institute, VW & USDA, AR), Tyskland (IGB, Berlin) Norge (NTNU, Trondheim; NMBU, Ås, UiT , Tromsø, Nord Uni., Bodø, NIVA, Nofima) og Tanzania.
