Jan Karlshøj has more than 20 years of experience in consulting engineering companies and has participated in research, development, and deployment activities related to interoperability — that is, seamless digital communication with high semantic content.

He has experience in the structural design of office buildings and cultural institutions.

Jan has taken part in research and development projects on digital construction, economic benefits from the use of IT in the construction sector, and sustainable solutions based on the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) at Danish, Nordic, and international levels. He has both participated in and led ISO standardization activities. He has also contributed to the development of standards within buildingSMART, several of which have been adopted by ISO and CEN as official standards.

Involved with the International Alliance for Interoperability/buildingSMART International since 1996. Has held various roles, including: Council member, member of the Executive Committee, International Technical Coordinator, Leader of the Building Room, Technical Leader of the Building Room, IDM Coordinator, Awards Coordinator, and member of the Standards Committee Technical Executive.
