Finn has been working with text and data mining. One line of research has been in the cross-field of neuroscience and computer science, so-called neuroinformatics. He has constructed software and databases for analysis of brain scanning data and neuroscience texts. Another line of research is analysis of social media data from Twitter and Wikipedia. This is text mining including citation analysis, topic mining and sentiment analysis.
