Personal profile

Profile

My research is concentrated on annealing and plastic deformation of  metallic materials, and on developing microstructural characterization techniques. The technique development has always been guided by specific scientific interests, so the instruments have been tailored for their purposes. I have pioneered three such instruments each leading to major breakthroughs in scientific understanding, and we are presently working on one more:

1) Neutron diffraction texture spectrometer (1980–1985).  2) Automatic electron back scattering pattern analysis in the SEM (1988–1996). 3) 3D synchrotron X-ray diffraction microscope, 3DXRD (1995–2011), 4) High-resolution laboratory X-ray microscopy, myXRD (2018–now),

At present my main research focus is on microstructural engineering of additively manufactured (AM) metals. The work encompas development of in-situ printing and myXRD equipments, fundamental understanding of the microstructural evolution with AM metal samples, establishing relationships between manufacturing, microstructure, properties and performance, and practical applications.
