Organisation profile

The group focuses on metabolic engineering of yeast cell factories for biosustainable production of chemicals from renewable feedstocks.

The group's projects include both fine chemicals (e.g., food colours, antioxidants, pheromones) and commodity chemicals (e.g., muconic acid for polymers).

We develop genetic engineering tools that facilitate iterative cycles of strain development and work on methodologies for accelerated strain design based on systems biology-level data and modelling.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. Our work contributes towards the following SDG(s):

  • SDG 3 - Good Health and Well-being
  • SDG 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy
  • SDG 8 - Decent Work and Economic Growth
  • SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production
  • SDG 13 - Climate Action
  • SDG 15 - Life on Land
