In the Science and Technology Studies section, our mission is to contribute to a better understanding of how science, technology and society impact each other. We do so by studying the conditions and social and ethical effects of knowledge production and emerging technologies in technoscientific capitalism. Utilising experimental methodologies, including quantitative, qualitative and art-based methods, to harness our curiosity, we explore how different forms of knowledge and technologies are valued or disregarded and by whom. Our research examines the politics, processes, and practices of technological presents and futures in the making and we do this in different domains exploring topics such as:
We also develop new methods to understand how scientists and engineers, and the things they create, change people’s daily lives for better or worse. In the Human-Centred Engineering Lab (ECHO Lab) fellow scientists and the public convene. We work with scientists, engineers, and societal stakeholders of different kinds to promote responsible innovation and public engagement. Our teaching centres on understanding and assessing the social and environmental impact of technology.
In 2025, the section was chosen as runner-up for the Danish Young Academy’s Research Environment of the Year Prize. This attests to our commitment to fostering an environment where early-career researchers can thrive. We are proud of our supportive scholarly culture, which encourages teamwork, individual ambition, excellence, and creativity.
