In the Optical sensor Technology Group at DTU Electro we are working towards faster and better cancer diagnosis replacing a 100 years old, manual biopsy procedure. Hereby we can potentially affect a vast number of people world-wide, by providing cheaper and better diagnostics which is an important step meeting the sustainable development goal of improving healthcare in the world.
The ever-increasing population combined with new and more costly medical treatments for various diseases put a heavy load on modern welfare. Therefore, new and cost effective technical solutions are in need to keep cost under control while supporting improved medical treatment and diagnosis.
The group has developed a new sensor technology that facilitates smarter and cheaper solutions, such as label-free, computer assisted, biopsy screening by combining novel mid-IR, imaging with machine learning.
Moreover, the group works with new sensor technology to fight global climate changes by improving standards for optimization of production as well as monitoring of human activities that is needed to support a green and sustainable society.
As an example, the group works on improved wind sensors for wind turbines. Employing these new sensors increases the wind energy production of existing wind turbines as well as their lifetime, thus improving the profitability of green energy.
The group has developed new smart sensor technology for wind sensing, detection of environmental gasses and industrial processes.
