Organisation profile

Organisation profile

Buildings must be designed, maintained, operated, and refurbished to provide a functional, comfortable and healthy environment for human activity while meeting sustainability requirements by being energy efficient, environmentally friendly, durable, and economically viable.

This section focuses on research, development and testing in all energy and moisture related aspects for new and existing buildings on both district and building scale.

We perform studies on the building envelope, climate conditioning systems and energy systems to develop the scientific foundation for sustainable, moisture-safe, energy-flexible and resilient buildings with a high quality indoor environment and low energy demand.

A central activity is to describe the interaction between energy demand, energy supply and indoor environment to support development of building components, design methods and energy systems. Energy supply systems in the form of solar energy systems and district heating form relevant parts of the research, which include optimized use of sustainable energy through load shifting and thermal storage.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. Our work contributes towards the following SDG(s):

  • SDG 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy
  • SDG 10 - Reduced Inequalities
  • SDG 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities
  • SDG 13 - Climate Action
