Organisation profile

Organisation profile

The Section of Digital Building Technologies strives to transform the architecture, engineering, construction, and facility management industry by developing, applying, and integrating new digital methods and technologies across the whole life cycle of buildings and infrastructures. This encompasses the entire chain from initial design through construction to the operation and reuse phase of valuable assets in the built environment. Our ultimate aim is to achieve on-time, cost-effective, energy efficient, sustainable, high-quality solutions while ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of all project stakeholders and end users.

Solutions to societal challenges
Our research focuses on digital methods and technologies such as digital twins, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), additive manufacturing/3D printing, automation and robotics, smart materials, smart buildings, extended realities, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and linked data. Leveraging the full potential of these digital innovations offers open, transformative solutions to pressing societal challenges related to the built environment by eliminating emissions and waste, extending asset lifetime, enhancing functionality, boosting energy efficiency and flexibility, improving reusability, all while advancing standards.

In addition to our research activities, we contribute significantly to the education within DTU. We actively participate in various educational programs, covering a range of degrees, including Bachelor, Diploma, Masters, Ph.D., and Executive (lifelong learning) programs. Our teaching mirrors our research interests, providing students with the knowledge and skills to create the sustainable buildings and infrastructures of tomorrow.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. Our work contributes towards the following SDG(s):

  • SDG 3 - Good Health and Well-being
  • SDG 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy
  • SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production
  • SDG 13 - Climate Action
