Scientists back thyroid measurements for EDC identification following criticism

Danish scientists who led the design have mostly rejected the criticism of changes to standard test methods to account for identification of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs).

Sofie Christiansen and Marta Axelstad at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) denied that the approach to thyroid measurements was "failing", as suggested by scientists at contract research organisation Charles River.

However, they said that by making all the thyroid hormone measurements mandatory that are currently optional, the test methods could be improved.
