Activity: Attending an eventParticipating in or organising workshops, courses, seminars etc.

Description

This course teaches how to use semi-structured interviews in international and cross-cultural contexts. Combining theoretical approaches and practical exercises on how to conduct such interviews, the course provides participants with analytical tools allowing a reflection on the scientific conditions of use and on the limitations of this method of data collection, in particular in international and/or cross-cultural contexts. Further, it teaches practical skills in the craft of semi-structured interviews from the early phase of interviewing to the presentation of research results. Participants learn how to select a method of questioning, how to prepare an interview guide, how to question interviewees, how to analyze the results using the coding technique, and how to present the results of their research. The course also provides participants tools for dealing with interview situations where there are cultural as well as language differences between interviewer and interviewee.
