Recent advancements in Artificial Intelligence have sparked discussion of its impact on work processes and, thus, future work roles when organizations navigate the transformations to AI-supported businesses.While current research focuses particularly on the AI impact on employees, there is limited understanding of its influence on managerial work, particularly regarding managers’ tasks, roles, and well-being when their tasks are supported or automated by AI.
On the one hand, administrative and repetitive tasks can be delegated to algorithmic solutions, enhancing efficiency and freeing time for managers to focus on strategic decision-making and interacting with their employees.
On the other hand, algorithms can surpass managers by effectively integrating big amounts of data into decision-making processes, potentially challenging the relevance of traditional managerial tasks.
What are the broader implications of AI integration for managerial experience, including well-being considerations, role ambiguity, and professional identity?
Based on literature and interviews with managers in Danish organizations that have integrated AI into decision-making, this presentation will explore the influence of AI on managers.
We find that the integration of AI into managerial work possesses both opportunities and challenges. Managers tend to view AI positively when it improves decision quality but may experience stress if they perceive AI as a threat.
Future research should investigate these aspects further to ensure that AI integration not only supports organizational goals but also the well-being and professional development of managers.
