The application of airborne wind energy systems in hybrid power plants

Activity: Examinations and supervision › Supervisor activities

Description

DTU M.Sci. Angelos Nikolaidis(230139)
"This project will investigate the potential benefits Airborne Wind Energy Systems can provide to hybrid power plant applications. The ability of AWES to dynamically adjust altitude in response to real-time weather conditions could improve energy output and help stabilize fluctuations in power availability, particularly during low wind or solar availability and thus resulting to more reliable and continuous power generation. If time allows, the project will explore the conditions and AWES design innovations that can help provide additional value by further investigating the following topics: 1) Understanding how different site and weather condition impact the value of AWES 2) How AWES can be optimized for, or protected against, different weather conditions, to be better specialized for hybrid plant. 3) How AWES can utilize weather forecast systems to enhance their power production in hybrid power plants 4) How AWES can be used as a sensor to better control the hybrid plant operation."
