Description
This PhD course applies a communication-centered perspective for conceptual and/or empirical inquiries into phenomena of organizations and organizing. Foregrounding the performative potential of communication and drawing on a variety of research traditions, the course addresses a multitude of themes through a communication lens, including issues of identity, change, authority, discipline, voice, responsibility, actorhood, and new organizational forms. Students learn how to analyze organizations and organizing from a communication-centered perspective and to consider the ontological, epistemological, and axiological implications of different communication approaches, incl. the theoretical perspective called Communication Constitutes Organization (CCO). Finally, students are guided in the craft of writing for scholarly publication at the interdisciplinary intersections of communication and organization.
