Description
Within the Industry 4.0 era, computer integrated manufacturing and digitalization plays a key role. Using computers and smart algorithms to control and supervise biotechnological processes accurately at their optimal state is of considerable interest to many biotech manufacturers. The usage and deployment of process models can lead to significant reduction of production costs by optimal scheduling, energy usage and raw material conversion, while at the same time guaranteeing, high product yields and qualities.Putting a model into action and maturing it to a digital twin is only possible if interaction between human operators, soft- and hardware are intensified and model development and deployment follows strict workflows. In this talk concrete examples for monitoring and control application of mechanistic models for biomanufacturing will be shown. The examples include different organisms including P. chrysogenum, E. coli and C. glutamicum and cover the control of productivity as well as the estimation of physiological parameters during the cultivation process. By estimating the cell physiology, overfeeding can be avoided and cell adaption detected in real-time. The control of productivity shows the potential to increase the product amount by 20- 50% within the same time and used nutrients.
