Description

This webinar was the second in the SeqAfrica Webinar Series 2024, and focused on strategies for prioritizing isolates for sequencing when resources are limited and it is not possible to sequence all isolates. Panelists included Anke Kohlenberg and Marius Linkevicius, who shared insights on isolate selection for the purposes of outbreak management and public health surveillance, based on the ECDC's European AMR Genes Surveillance Network (EURGen-Net). Additionally, panelists Beatriz Guerra and Raquel Garcia Fierro from EFSA discussed approaches to isolate selection and integrating WGS into food safety and AMR monitoring. A key takeaway is that decisions about which isolates to sequence should be purpose-driven, contextually relevant, and informed by high-quality metadata.
