Description
This workshop was conducted under the umbrella of the Health Systems Design Special Interest Group (SIG) of the Design Society and took place on the first day of the 23rd International Conference on Engineering Design (ICED21).
This workshop was a hackathon style event whereby a health challenge (Preventing hospitalisation by self monitoring) was put to participants to solve in the allotted time-period. The idea is that the hackathon challenge jointly defined with Astra Zeneca forms the core of the workshop. The aim was to benefit from a cross-fertilisation of approaches, enabling groups to generate their concept propositions, crystallised in a canvas. The Health Systems Design SIG Co-chairs introduced the overall approach the SIG takes to healthcare improvement in three ignite talks. The talks were given by DTU – Technical University of Denmark, TU Delft and the University of Cambridge around their individual yet complementary strategies for healthcare improvement. The group work was followed by discussions of each proposed solution/innovation canvas and a vote for the most innovative.
