Description

DTU Wind M.Sci., student Haakon Jahr Sletsjøe(183185)
For over a decade , ruggedness index (RIX) has been used to assess complexity of terrain and correct results of common (linearized) wind flow models over such terrain. However, it fails to work for some sites, and is not related to the flow physics. Other metrics for terrain complexity are possible, which are relatable to the physical effect of terrain drag. These need to be better understood and investigated, both in relation to RIX as well as their ability to represent complex terrain’s effect on wind resource prediction.
