Description
Recent environmental surveys have suggested that antifouling coatings could be a significant source of microplastics in the environment. Not only is this an environmental concern, but it also highlights a knowledge gap of our understanding of the working mechanism of antifouling coatings. To investigate the fate and behaviour of antifouling coatings, a methodology has been developed to simulate a sailing ship and evaluate the released particulate matter. The evaluation of the released particles is presented here through two different semi-automated microscopy analyses.
