Transient Overvoltages in the Collection Network of an Offshore Wind Farm
Publication: Research - peer-review › Article in proceedings – Annual report year: 2011
Electromagnetic transient simulations are compared with GPS synchronized measurements of a switching operation in Nysted Offshore Wind Farm. The difficulties in modeling cables accurately due to the small geometries involved and the conversion process required by the software are highlighted. A vacuum circuit breaker model which is able to simulate pre-strikes during a closing operation is described. The inclusion of pre-strikes in the model causes a more round fronted second wave which increases the magnitude of the transient overvoltage. The simulation results are very similar to the measurements.
