N2 - The aim of the paper is to address some challenges related to offshore wind energy. A first example shows some results from an ongoing project on accurate computation of wave loads on monopole foundations. The effects of wave nonlinearity and bottom slope are examined and detailed CFD computations for an overturning wave impact are presented. Next the existing servo aero- hydrodynamic code VpOne used for estimating loads on offshore wind turbines is briefly described and an example of a fatigue analysis for a jacket foundation supporting the 5 MW NREL virtual wind turbine is shown.
