Antimicrobial resistance is an increasing problem worldwide. It is therefore important to know more about how resistance develops and spreads between bacteria and environments.

I am employed as a senior scientist in the research group of antimicrobial resistance and molecular epidemiology in department of food microbiology and risk assessment. I have a wide range of experience in many aspects of bacteriology in particular antimicrobial resistance and zoonotic bacteria. My research has been concentrated on: The spread of antimicrobial resistance in different environments as well as via the food production chain to humans. This includes characterization of novel resistance genes, characterization of mobile elements, horizontal gene transfer, and evolution/diversity of resistance genes in different bacteria and environments. Lately, the work has also been including international spread of resistance genes and zoonotic bacteria.

My work task includes: advisory (nationally and internationally), surveillance programmes for resistance in foods and animals (incl. MRSA and ESBL) project managements, teaching and supervision.
