Surabhi joined UNEP Risø Centre (URC) in October 2011 as
Communications Assistant. Focusing on external and online
communications, she is responsible for the creation and management
of the new URC website as well as websites for the FIRM project,
NAMA Partnership and the NAMAcademy. In addition, she assists in
the preparation of outreach materials such as newsletters and
brochures. She has previously contributed to the preparation of the
URC corporate flyer, Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) Newsletter
(May and Nov 2012), the URC and FIRM banners, and policy summaries
and brochure for the ‘Low Carbon Transport in India’
project, amongst others.
She has previously worked in the communications team at the
United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna and the
United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Copenhagen.
In additon, she worked as Research Analyst at Global Advice
Network, an anti-corruption consultancy based in Copenhagen, and as
a Robert Shuman Scholar (Trainee) at the European Parliament,
working on awareness raising campaigns at the Directorate General
for Personnel. Prior to leaving India, she worked as
a Television Anchor for India's Parliamentary channel, Lok
Sabha TV (LSTV).
Surabhi holds a Master’s degree in Media, Communication
and Cultural Studies from Roskilde University and University of
London, and a B.A. (Hons.) degree in Economics from Lady Shri Ram
College, University of Delhi. She is the author of the book
‘Networked Diasporas: Constructing Identity and Community on
Social Networking Sites’, 2011 (VDM Verlag).
