Expertise

Research in the field of conducting polymers (e.g. polypyrrole). The emphasis is on the understanding of the fundamental molecular processes governing the mobility of ions and solvent molecules in the polymer film. The research is directed towards the use of electroactive polymers as soft actuators (electro-chemo-mechanical actuators or "artificial muscles"). The polymer actuators are characterized electrochemically, and with respect to their mechanical properties, e.g. Young's modulus, volume, strength, during redox cycling

International experience

Participation in a number of international (e.g European Union) and national projects.
