My research is devoted to the development of experimental and theoretical approaches for the investigation of biological processes. A fundamental problem in biology is the elucidation of the relation between the genotype and phenotype. The difficulties in establishing this relation can be largely ascribed to the fact that many of the properties we associate with living systems, and label as phenotypic traits, emerge from the interactions among the many components of living cells. These emergent properties can be understood only through integration of our knowledge of the characteristics and behavior of individual parts, and thus necessitate the development of strategies that combining experimental and theoretical elements.
