Sara Trærup is an Agricultural Economist and a Research fellow in the Climate Strategies and Resilient Development Programme at UNEP Risø Centre. She holds a Ph.D. in socio-economic aspects of climate change adaptation from University of Copenhagen.

Sara has been with the UNEP Risø Centre since 2005 and has immense experience in research and policy advice on climate change adaptation in a development context. In her work, Sara has combined analytical approaches from a variety of academic disciplines such as geography, economics and sociology, and addressed the relationship between climate change and development at a variety of scales from the overall international and national policy level to the level of the individual household.

At present, much of her work revolves around Technology Needs Assessments in developing countries and approaches for integrating adaptation into planning and decision making processes, including the assessment of costs and benefits of adaptation.
