Rongling Li is currently working on two Danish pilot projects of smart energy systems and smart cities: CITIES and EnergyLab Nordhavn. Her focus on the projects is building energy flexibility including thermal and electrical flexibility, using modelling and data-driven approaches. She also supervises three PhDs and several master students working on the topics of energy flexibility of buildings and thermal flexibility of district heating grids. She is an active member of International Energy Agency EBC Annex 67- Energy Flexible Buildings.

Through the EnergyLab Nordhavn project, the CITIES project and Annex 67, Rongling collaborates with DTU Electrical Engineering, DTU Management Engineering, DTU Compute, HOFOR, Balslev, Eindhoven University of Technology and Tsinghua University. 

Her research interest includes smart cities, energy demand flexibility, energy system modelling, big data analysis, building physics and services.

She lectures in two courses: Heat and Mass Transfer in Buildings, and Sustainable Urbanization from a Practical Case Perspective.
