M.Sc. in mechanical engineering from the Technical University of Denmark in 1974. Lic. Tech. (Ph.D.) from
the Materials Department Risø and the Department of Mechanical Materials Processing, the Technical
University of Denmark, in physical metallurgy and mechanical behaviour of materials in 1977.

Since 1978 responsible for the Mechanical Testing Laboratory, and from 1984 responsible for the accredited
testing and for the commercial activities in the programme.Since 1982 responsible for a variety of national and international basic and industrial research programmes in some of them as a project leader, in others as a coordinator or as a scientific co-worker.

Qualifications and Research areas:

• Mechanical testing and experimental measurements

• Modelling of mechanical properties, damage and fracture mechanics

• Studies of both large and small plastic deformations of metallic materials

• Specialist in the fatigue, damage and fracture mechanics behaviour of metallic materials, composite
materials, and other advanced materials

• Specialized in basic constuents i.e. fibers, resins and sizings of polymer composite materials

• Specialized in mechanical properties especially fatigue and damping in polymer composite materials

• Materials mechanics, performance and reliability of materials for wind turbine blades

• Innovative applications of composites in engineering (medico, energy, mechanical)

• Application of bio based materials (natural fibres and resins, bamboo and wood) especially in wind
turbine blades

1976-1979: External lecturer at The Danish Military Academy (Flyvevåbenets Officersskole)

1986-1990: External lecturer at the Engineering Academy in Haslev (Haslev Teknikum)

2007: coordinating a course in Biomaterials, DTU Elektro
