Pierre Pinson holds a M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics (INSA Toulouse, France) and a Ph.D. in Energy (Ecole des Mines de Paris, France). He is the Professor in the Modelling of Electricity Markets at DTU Elektro, Centre for Electric Power and Energy, also heading the Electricity Market group. He has been a visiting research at the University of Oxford (Mathematical Institute), at the University of Washington (Dpt. of Statistics), as well as a consultant at the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF).

His work is mainly related to the application of mathematical modeling and decision-making methods to the energy sector. The primary focus of this research is on easing the large scale integration of renewable energies into power systems and electricity markets, based on stochastic process modeling, forecasting, optimization and decision-making under uncertainty.

Pierre Pinson has published a large number of manuscripts in high-profile scientific journals, while regularly giving presentations in various international conferences. He acts as Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Power Systems and for Wind Energy, two of the most regarded journals in the field of renewable energy and power systems engineering.
