During most of my academic career I have been engaged in management, administration and occasionally also leadership in relation to research and groups of researchers.


In the last part of the 1990s I was project manager of advice centre activities on the Test Station for Wind Turbines in what was at that time Risø National Laboratory. I headed a project group of approximately 7 persons. Among the main achievements were the development of the approval scheme of wind turbines in Denmark, national and international strategies for wind energy related R&D, and extensive international information activities.


From 1999 to 2007 I headed the Technology Scenarios research program at Risø National Laboratory. Over these years we managed to increase the staff of research program from 4 to 8 and annual external funding from nothing to 3 – 4 million DKK. Among the main achievements was to position the group within the European technology foresight community.


As a result of the merger process in the Danish research and university sector in 2007 the group from January 1st 2008 became a part of the newly created Department for Management Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark. Among my most important tasks was to secure a smooth transition to this new environment. Furthermore, in over a year I served as acting deputy head of the department.


Following a reorganisation in 2012 I became head of the newly established Technology and Innovation Management Division of the DTU Management Engineering. Among the main challenges has been to reorganise the division and increase the staff from less than 20 to almost 50 today.


From mid 2016 I furthermore took the position as deputy head of DTU Management Engineering with the department's research activities as my key task.


Since the mid-1990’s my research interests have focused on three areas: a) Technology foresight, b) Strategy and strategy processes in industrial sectors, and c) Innovation and research strategy in energy technologies.


Technology foresight: Together with colleagues and partners I have carried out technology foresight exercises on areas such as energy technologies, sensor technology, nano technology, and robotics & cognition but also industrial sectors such as agri-food and facilities management. Besides foresight as a practice my research interests have included development of methodologies for foresight and the position of foresight exercises within policy development processes. 


Strategy and strategy processes in industrial sectors – in particular sectors related to energy technologies such as wind energy and other renewable energy technologies: Since 1995 my interests has focused on goal oriented approach to strategies and participatory processes ensuring commitment from industry, academia, interest groupings and public authorities.


Innovation and research strategy in energy technologies: My interest stems back from my PhD thesis where I studied innovation processes in the Danish wind turbine industry. This lead to an interest in learning curves for energy technologies. Recently, my interests focus on different types of indicators for technological innovation in the energy technology sector.
