Topic of thesis:  Synthesis and design of integrated-intensified chemical/biochemical process

Starting date:  May 2012

Background:  M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from The Sirindhorn Thai German Graduate School of Engineering (with collaboration with AVT.PT RWTH Aachen)

Supervisors:  Gürkan Sin and Krist Gernaey

The focus of this project is to develop the decision support tool for biorefinery design at the early-stage. A systematic framework is used to manage the complexity and solving simultaneously both business and engineering dimension. This allows the comparison of a large number of alternatives and results in the identification of the optimal raw material, multi-product portfolio and process technology selection for a specified market scenario, their sustainability metrics and risk of investment under market uncertainties during early-stage enabling risk-aware decision making. The project is expected to serve as  enabling technology for facilitating the innovation cycle to support the development of renewable carbon-based technologies and industries. The project is part of a European collaboration called OPTICO.
