My research areas are:


1. Mixture toxicology

I am work package leader in a four year project investigating mathematical models used to assess toxicological effects of chemical mixtures. The results obtained in this project will most likely be utilized in future toxicological risk assessment of chemical mixtures.


I have one published article in this area and several under way.


Concentration addition, independent action and generalized concentration addition models for mixture effect prediction of sex hormone synthesis in vitro.

2. Nanoparticle toxicology, specifically silver ions and silver nanoparticles.

3. New methods for assessing toxicity of chemicals

I work at setting up models for better assessment of toxicity in general. I use such mechanistic techniues as pharmacological modulation e.g. with inhibitors or activators to shut down or modulate specific pathways in the mammalian body; I do Western blotting to assess protein levels of specific proteins as well as mRNA and immunonohistochemistry techniques. The use of metabolomics as a new tool for this is also a focus area.
