I am a Colombian PhD student in Denmark. I started focusing in fish immunology during my MSc studies at Wageningen University (The Netherlands), where supervised by Dr. Geert Wiegertjes, I worked with Toll-like receptor 2 activation in common carp. In December 2008 I got my PhD position at the Danish Technical University in Copenhagen under the supervision of Dr. Michael Engelbrecht Nielsen. The main objective of my project is to understand the effect of β-glucan induced modulation in carp in relation to tissue regeneration. I will compare and evaluate modulation between immune cells (Macrophages) and tissue related cells (Fibroblasts), measuring parameters as respiratory burst activity and expression profiles of immune related genes in cell cultures and in vivo experiments.
