Scientific highlights:
Co-discoverer of the substitutional adsorption of alkali metals on metal surfaces (Phys. Rev. Lett. 69, 1532 (1992), and Phys. Rev. Lett. 72, 3370 (1994)). 

In organic electronics, I made the structural studies, crucial for the first demonstration of the relationship between microstructure and charge carrier mobility in organic field effect transistors (OFETs), (Nature, 401, 685 (1999)). Later this was enhanced by the first demonstration of structural control of OFETs using polymer blends (Nature Materials, 5, 950 (2006)).

In ultrafast structural dynamics, my group made the first x-ray structure of an excited state in solution (J. Am. Chem. Soc, 131, 502 (2009)) and the first time-resolved structural study of an associative chemical reaction in solution (Angew. Chem Int. Ed., 48, 4180 (2009)). Lastly, my group made the world’s first time resolved x-ray scattering study of the response to optical excitation by molecules in solution, recorded with time resolutions below 300 fs at LCLS in August 2011.
