My research is focused on the contact between surfaces and materials and biologically active media. An example is how the materials interact with bacteria in drinking water or with the chemistry in food. Since 1998 we have been running projects on metallic materials in food production equipment, e.g. the effect of surfaces on biofilm and cleaning, wear and corrrosion of surfaces during food production and the resulting metal release to food products. The work includes a survey of risks in proces equipment, development of better tests and optimisation of materials selection. Microbially influenced corrosion and design of antibacterial surfaces is another branch of this research area.

My research also includes methods for monitoring corrosion rate and mechanism in order to predict and measure the rate at which metals corrode and the consequences of this. The development of methods takes place in cooperation with other research groups and relevant industry. A range of electrochemical and direct monitoring techniques are applied and combined to solve the specific task.
