Main research interests are the molecular mechanisms of emerging virus species, the inital dynamics of emerging epidemics and the develoment of a real-time epidemiological contingency where pathogens can be detected prior to clinical symptoms and strains can be currently identified to reveal and predict the dynamics and course of an epidemic.
